ONE HANDED ADJUSTMENTS
The Height Adjuster, adapted from a design by Peter Galbert, allows for fast, one-handed movements to set the height of the head while the smaller pivot pin and teeth provide a finer level of adjustment.
DESIGN
The Plate 11 Pinhead Shavehorse is designed to be efficient, versitile and comfortable to use. After trying and ultimately being frustrated by other shavehorses, I set out to create a new design that combined all the features I was looking for in one tool. Foremost it had to have a strong grip without causing damage to my parts. I wanted an open-sided head that would allow for quick repositioning of the part with one handed height adjustments of the head. It needed to be easily stored and the base should do double duty as a saw bench or a low workbench.
ROUGH WORK TO FINE FINISH
Two pivot positions allow you to move the head forward for tighter, more delicate work like spoon carving or back for every day tasks like roughing out and shaping parts.
PROTECT YOUR WORK
The pivoting Clamping Pin, initially created by Bern Chandey, has been refined in this design and is set to allow a roughly 30° range of motion. This provides a flat clamping surface which automatically adjusts to the shape of your parts and protects them from damage caused by the force of clamping.
CHANGE THINGS UP
The Modular Design of the Base and Stage, pioneered by Tim Manney, allows the horse to be reconfigured for any number of tasks. Marilyn Guthrie, a Fine Woodworking Blogger and one of my early customers, detailed the creation of a Bowl Shave Attachment that she can add to the base of her horse when she's ready to switch from making chairs to shaping bowls. More recently she used her Shavehorse Base and a saw sharpening vise to make a stitching pony to sew the arms for her Roorkie Chair. View her Instagram post here.

I build shavehorses in White Ash, Cherry and Walnut. They come unfinished and carefully packed in two boxes. They can be assembled and ready to use in a matter of minutes.
